I have no idea what number this is, I have done at least half a dozen since I started DC Vegan several years ago.
A new feature of HTML 5 is the ability to use web fonts. These are fonts that you would not typically see on a website unless it was maybe a graphic. Google just release there own Fonts API so that anyone can easily use fancy fonts on their website, all you have to do is install a little snipit of code in your webpage and edit your style sheet. I am currently using the font “Bennie” for the title of my website. You can check out more fonts here.
The next DC Vegan Drinks, a monthly social event I started in DC will be hosted at Great Sage in Clarksville Maryland. This will be the 18th event, we usually have them down in DC, this will be the second time Great Sage has hosted it. Gene Baur founder of Farm Sanctuary in Watkins Glen NY will be speaking and 10% of the nights sales will go to Farm Sanctuary. Great Sage will be offering a delicious Five Course Vegan Dinner for 45 bucks for the event. You need to call Great Sage to reserve a spot, you can find out more info at http://dcvegandrinks.org

Keeping up on current events!

The other day I made Vegan “Eggs” Benedict, they were so freakin delicious I wanted to share the recipe, so here it is! Recipe is from ChooseVeg.com. Also pictured scrambled tofu and a grapefruit.
Preheat the oven to 450ºF. Drain the tofu, cut it into 8 slices, and arrange it in a single layer in an oiled 9″x13″ baking dish.
In a small bowl, whisk together the vinegar, salt, and olive oil and pour the mixture over the tofu. Bake the tofu for 20 minutes, basting it occasionally and turning it over after 10 minutes. Pour off any excess liquid and bake the tofu for a few more minutes–until it is brown and crispy.
To make the hollandaise sauce, melt the nondairy margarine in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the nondairy sour cream, paprika, nutmeg, cayenne, and lemon juice. Make sure that the mixture is heated through but don’t allow it to boil.
Top each English muffin half or slice of toast with a slice of tofu, Canadian “bacon,” and tomato, and a generous spoonful of hollandaise sauce. Serve immediately.

Someone had a long day!

Ben and I went to get pizza the other day at Roscoe’s in Takoma Park.
This is the second version of the DC Vegan Drinks logo, this one is a little cleaner than the first one. The colors are pretty much the same, I darkened the glass a little and used new fonts.

my new business cards have finally arrived! i used moo.com, i have used them in the past and was very happy, so i decided to use them again. they allow you to design your own, chose from their designs, use photos from flickr, there are a lot of options. they also have recycled paper with is another plus. moo also offers mini cards, greeting cards, and postcards.
