DC Vegan Drinks at Cafe Green
The 29th (roughly) DC Vegan Drinks is tonight at Cafe Green. We have visited Cafe Green once before and had a great time. This time the event will be a little different in that we will be at the bar area on the lower (entrence) level. From what I hear the they are pretty excited that we are visiting this month as we are as well!
Hope to see you all out there tonight! Please RSVP on Facebook so we have an idea of how many to expect.
Zipcar – Audi A3

I needed to use a Zipcar this weekend to go visit my folks up in Frederick, this is my second Zipcar since my car died last week. I decided to do an all day rental cause it made more since if I was going to ren it for half the day it was almost the same price as a full day. I also decided on the Audi A3, because it was close to my house and I wanted something nice if I was going to have the car all day. The Audi is considered one of their luxury cars which means it doesn’t say Zipcar on the side of the car and it also had a SpeedPass in the car as well.
I have never driven an Audi before so I was super excited and I also came to find that this Audi A3 was a S model! If your not familiar with the A3 its a little bigger then a Volkswagon GTI and is also a hatchback. The inside was pretty roomy and there was decent about of trunk space. I had to take some laundry with me and I was able to fit the laundry basket and another box in the back, and still had a little room to spare. The Audi A3 has an automatic / tiptronic transmission, which made driving a very fun.
Being an S model the car had very good pickup! I did a little city and highway driving and had no complaints on either.
The car was in in pretty good shape on the outside and inside and was relatively clean. There was no noticiable interior or exterior damage. There was about 35k on it, the transmission light was on on the car and first gear seemed a little slow to respond but other then that the car drove very well. I called Zipcar to let them know that the light was on, when using the iPhone app, they know exactly what car your calling about when you call.
Overall I was very happy with renting the Audi A3 and will definitely rent this one again.
More Mass Transit
So my car’s transmission finally kicked it this past weekend after dropping $2k on it in the past year. I don’t think I am going to get it fixed, they said it could be another $3k to rebuild the transmission, and I need something more reliable. I don’t have the money to by a new or used car right now so I have to save, which means I’ll be doing more mass transit, bike, and I also Zip car (which I got approved for last night).
Monday morning was one of my first multi-connection trips via mass T (bus and train), I had to take Ben to daycare which is not very close to where I currently live. I take Ben to daycare every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. I also have to say that although I use the Metro a ton I have never use the buses so thats all new to me. So after checking the route times and buses that I had to get on and time I had to be out the door with the little guy, I felt fairly confident about our trip to daycare. Ben was very excited that we were going to ride the bus and the train to daycare definitely more then I was.
We ended up arriving at daycare on time and Ben had a blast riding the train and bus! I used Google maps to get the bus times and they were pretty on, though the evenings the buses seem to get off schedule a little more.
The initial shock of not having my own car has been very stressful for me, I have had my own car since I was 16. Ive started to except not having my own car a little each day, but I am pretty sure I will get another one once I can save up enough monies to do so.
I also did some math on using mass T and Zip car and it looks like I will actually save money, with the amount of gas I use each month and my insurance payment, I could save about $150 + a month, which is pretty sweet!
And if you want to buy a broken down Saturn I know where you can find one pretty cheap!
